Workshop Graphics - 2018 NZ MX Nationals R1 Recap

As the official supplier for the 2018 NZ MX Nationals, and supporters of Motorcycling New Zealand's live stream initiative, Workshop Graphics has established itself within the motocross community, in both a support role and as a leading supplier to many of the country's leading teams, privateers and weekend warriors.

The season opener of the 2018 NZ MX Nationals was no exception, with Workshop-supported riders prevalent on all podiums. In the premier MX1 class, it was Altherm JCR Yamaha Racing's Kayne Lamont who led the charge, with a clean sweep in MX1 to take the overall. On the second step on the podium was six-times and reigning New Zealand Motocross Champion, Workshop Graphics-sponsored Honda Racing Team's Cody Cooper. Just off the podium in fourth, was Cooper's Honda Racing teammate, John Phillips.

In the super-competitive MX2 class, Brad Groombridge – another Workshop-supported rider – rode his Kea Suzuki Racing RM-Z250L8 to three great finishes to round out the day P2 overall. The four-times National Cross Country Champ finished in front of Jay Wilson who came home in a strong 3rd position. The two riders had a collision in the first race, which saw them at the back of the pack after the first corner. But an unstoppable run from both riders saw them able to gain valuable points, in what is only a four-round championship. As a favourite to take the 2018 National 125cc title, Maximus Purvis did not disappoint, with the Altherm JCR Yamaha rider running down the leaders. As each race progressed, the bLU cRU ripper kept bettering his own laps times, seeing him on the top step of the podium.

Back in MX2, Workshop-supported riders Trent Collins and Micah McGoldrick come home in 6th and 7th, respectively. Up in the premier class, Workshop Graphics-supported riders Hadleigh Knight and Blake Gillard put in great rides, battling with their peers, who are some of the country's best. In the all-new Woman's Cup class, Motueka's Roma Edwards showed some great speed, as did The Honda Shop's Chloe Steel.

Next up, it’s Round 2 of the NZ MX Nationals, being hosted by the Rotorua Motorcycle Club on Sunday, February 25. If you can’t make it to the track, MNZ and a team of supporters – including Workshop Graphics, have made it possible to view all the action via a live stream.
